About three or four years ago, Dr. Dre got together with Jimmy Iovine the Chairman of Interscope/Geffen Records. They had the idea to create an outstanding range of Dr Dre Headphones. The kind of headphones that could reproduce the sound that the artist’s and producers hear, in a professional recoding studio.

They got together with Monster and worked tirelessly for three years to achieve that goal. It was worth the wait. the result was the outstanding range of the ‘Beats by Dre’ line of Dr Dre Headphones.

A number of people questioned the decision to partner up with Monster for this new venture. They were previously known as a fairly expensive cable company. However, I can assure you, they clearly know a thing or two about headphones.

They have produced an outsatanding product, that is not only a groundbreaking example of just how excellent a consumer audio product can be, but also managed to combine that with influencing the high-end fashion and pop-culture market, with cool pairs of Dr Dre Headphones being worn by and endorsed by Kobe Bryant and Lady Gaga, numerous football players etc.

Dr Dre Headphones

There was an initial amount of criticism at the start, as these are not strictly DJ headphones. They are large, over-the-ear type headphones, with the main difference between these and standard DJ headphones is that the cups aren’t designed to spin round allowing you to listen to the music from one side. However, that is not a major problem as these were not designed for that purpose.

Dr Dre has since solved this problem by releasing a range of High-Performance Beats Pro Headphones. Designed with the professional DJ in mind, the Monster Beats Pro DJ headphones have all the features required to make your set sound great no matter how many people you’re playing to. These new Beats by Dr. Dre Spin headphones come with ControlTalk, which does feature volume controls. Awesome. Please see review of DJ headphones here.

These Dr Dre headphones do everything you would expect a high-end pair to do and a lot more. Firstly they fold-up for easy transportation. The case is a cool black one for easy storage. Saying that, it’s unlikely you’ll take them off the top of your head. I’ve had mine for a month and have hardly taken them off !

Features of the new range of Dr Dre Headphones

Let’s get down to business – obviously the most important is the audio quality but before we get to that let’s talk about the features on these Dr Dre Headphones.

These come fully-loaded, they come in a range of colours. Luckily the plastic is scratch-resistant so no need to worry about a few minor scuffs, here and there. One point I really like is the foam around the ear cups and on top of the head is really good quality and extremely comfortable.

They come with two adapters, one for an airplane and one to convert from the standard 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch connector. You’ll also find a handy cleaning cloth and two cable to connect to your audio device. A regular red one with iSoniTalk (iDevice controls).

This is where we get to how the amazing sound quality is achieved. The cables are nice and much thicker than a standard cable – obviously Monster know a thing or two about cables ! The quality here even shows in small details such as the button choice for the iSoniTalk cable. This is by far the most satisfying button I’ve used for controlling iPod playback via headphones. I know that sounds a bit petty, but the button itself has a nice solid feel to it and works perfectly. If anyone has used the controls on Apple iphone headphones, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The button is tiny, doesn’t always feel like it’s being depressed (especially in cold weather) and degrades towards unusability much faster than it should. One thing they should have added was a volume up and down button on the cord. Hopefully they will add this in the future.

In conclusion, The entire range of Beats by Dre line of Dr Dre headphones are beyond mind blowing.” The audio quality delivered by these headphones surpasses that of any set that has yet graced my ears. I’ve never been addicted to a set of headphones before, and frankly, I didn’t even know it was possible until I turned these off for the first time. I am amazed !!!

I feel that this range of Dr Dre Headphones are worth every penny. I realise that times are tight and $300 is a lot of money to pay on a set of headphones, but trust me you won’t regret it. These headphones keep you coming back for more. You’ll never feel like you were short-changed by just buying some coll hip hop producer’s new product.

These Dr Dre headphones have changed the way I listen to music, It’s an odd, but altogether exhilerating feeling. It’s certainly a large investment, but one I think anyone who chooses to purchase these mind-blowing Dr Dre Headphones will continue to be happy with for many years to come.
